2010 Winners

Norma Durrand, Chairman of the Dandenong Ranges Music Council, is delighted to announce the results of the 2010 Bill Borthwick Encouragement Prize, and the 2010 Ann and Chris Krans Award. The winners have been decided after a day of very impressive performances at the Dandenong Ranges Music Council Community Music Centre in November.

The standard of performances was quite high, with adjudicator Carolyn McAlister finding the task of choosing a winner pleasingly difficult. Norma Durrand was very happy with the performances, and offers her congratulations to all who participated.

Entrants and winners performed at our YOUTH WEEK EVENT held on Sunday 18th April 2010 in the Upwey High School Presentation Space. The program featured performances from Ranges Young Strings, Students and Staff from Ranges Music School and presentation of the Youth Music Awards. A very inspiring and enjoyable afternoon was had by all.

Krans Award

The winner of the 2010 Ann and Chris Krans Award is Rose Zhang of Brighton on piano. Congratulations to Rose.

The Ann and Chris Krans Award has been presented for the past nineteen years. The award is for musicians, under 18 years of age, with serious aspirations of making music their career. The award was instituted by the family of Mr Chris Krans as a memorial to him and his love of music and young people. Cash prizes are awarded in this category to assist young musicians in their continuing music studies.

Borthwick Prize

The equal first prize winners of the 2010 Bill Borthwick Encouragement Prize for young musicians are Jeremy Doupe from Montrose, on violin, and Andreas Mikulcic from Olinda on piano. Second prize was awarded to Netta Talmi from Ferny Creek on voice. Congratulations to Jeremy, Andreas and Netta.
