THE PATH TO SUSTANABILITY
What is sustainability?
Sustainability is generally defined as ... the ability to meet the needs of the present without diminishing prospects for the future.
A sustainable region is one that will endure over time, as a prosperous and liveable place. But this will depend upon:

  • successful integration of environmental, social, economic and individual needs;
  • a flourishing natural environment and healthy ecosystems,
  • vibrant local communities;
  • a resilient, diverse and productive economy;
  • achieving quality of life for everyone;
    and finally, but most importantly,
  • ensuring we can meet the needs of future generations who will live here.

A sustainable region is one that has a future. One we can be proud to offer our children; one that is better than what was inherited. A sustainable region is one that is improving, and can keep on improving.
